"Reminder Appliance"

For years (literally!), we've been struggling with Olivia's thumb sucking habit...
It's nasty, it's dirty, it's terrible and we just hate it..
So many times we have tried to get her to stop this terrible habit and she has even tried herself...at some point I even thought she had succeeded and had stopped but it turned out to be a "scare".. LOL..
So, after much consideration and tons of conversations (with Iggy, with Olivia and even with Gaby..LOL), we decided to consult an orthodontist and research some permanent solutions... The orthodontist suggested a "reminder appliance" which is some sort of a metal bridge that is put on the roof of the mouth and will help her break the habit.  The appliance will stay in her mouth for up to a year and it will hopefully end this nightmare...
Olivia seemed to be on board with the idea so we just went with it...
She got fitted for the mold a few weeks ago and today she finally got a bridge/reminder appliance put in the roof of her mouth.. She did amazingly well; she didn't even need numbing gas and was so proud of herself after the process was over...
She is now showing off her new "toy" and is taking it well... Of course she is having some trouble eating and adjusting to the fact that there is an apparatus in her mouth, but all in all I'm really amazed at how well she's taking it...
I really hope the excitements lasts and this is a success...I'm really proud of her and impressed at her maturity...
Go Olivia!

Did she have problems talking while she had the appliance?

Hi. I took her a few days to get used to it and she couldn't roll her "r's", which we do when speaking Spanish. But she didn't have problems talking per se

Thank you. My daughter has a singing competition. I think I will wait until she is done with the competition and then she will have the appliance.

I will also add that after the appliance, she developed a habit of pushing her teeth with her tongue and down the years she had yet another appliance put in. She is now almost 14 and in her 2nd phase of braces which should come off in the next 6 months!
