This one doesn't probably qualify as a movie since it's really a documentary, but it is playing in theaters nationwide so I'll go ahead and review it too...
"Chimpanzee" has been out since April 20th but we just got the chance to see it yesterday; the girls were adamant about watching the "monkey movie" so we obliged...
Let's start by saying that while the film is interesting and has a rather profound message (the similarities between animal and human instincts).. It depicts the journey of a herd of chimpanzees struggling to survive in the jungle...the movie shows the "family life" of these animals and follows the story of a little one name Oskar, who happens to lose his mom in a battle with rival chimpanzees and is then adopted by another chimpanzee who raises him and his own...
The story is interesting because it isn't staged (obviously) and it shows real footage with a great narration throughout...(it is narrated by Tim Allen).. It also has great scenery and beautiful images of the jungle...
On the down side, the kids got bored and it was hard for them to follow the story.. I don't think this movie should have been marketed for little kids...this one belongs in a segment of National Geographic or Discovery Channel... It was cute...but it definitely did not grab the girls' attention even though the movie is only 80 minutes long...
This one gets 3 out of 4 stars from me, based on the fact that it is very well made and the story is compelling and REAL!
